Search engine marketing is constantly changing so books get old pretty fast. That being said there are still some great books on topics that apply indirectly. I also throw in some sci fi book reviews I enjoyed at the end.

Usability
Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability – If you only buy one book on this list get this book! I pick it up every few months to keep my mind fresh. It goes over usability, the theories, how to apply it and just some amazing illustration from the internet world.

Old School Marketing
Tested Advertising Methods – The classic, learn how to write the short content that pulls the readers in. Great for learning how to write for PPC ads, advertising in general, landing pages, and just a lot of good concepts to know.

Science Fiction
Halting State – My favourite book of 2008 and one of the best sci fi books I’ve ever read. The most accurate portrayal of what the internet and future might look like in a positive way. The first two chapters are hard to handle but after that is starts flowing and you can’t stop reading. He has two other books as well. I’ve read the one about the samurai mafia pizza delivery man and I loved it even more but it is for hard core sci fi junkies. Right now I’m reading the on nano technology. Its a bit hard to jump into that universe but I expect like the others after two chapters of catching up you will never be able to escape his created reality. These books were read on my Amazon Kindle, a life changing device and although the hardware is no Apple design it works and the amount of books available is awesome!
