Review Of SEOmoz PRO Membership
May 20, 2008 by Ben W.
SEOmoz is a highly respected search marketing agency and over the last few years has grown into an online community for search engine marketers. Due to the popularity of the tools they have created and their articles they expanded to offer a pro membership level to support the ongoing creation of this resource. The cost of the membership is $49 USD a month or $399 USD a year. I’ve been a pro member since June 2007 and I highly recommend signing up. I’m very happy with the resources despite a few organizational annoyances. Below is a review of what they are offering and my thoughts.
Dashboard Review
The dashboard is what you are presented with at login and something I’m getting used too after some recent changes. One of the only negatives I have with the pro memberships is that the layout is a tad confusing and not always as clear as it could be. The first part of the dashboard tracks analytics for a domain of your choice. This tool crawls the web to find inbound links, brand mentions, indexing data, and some other great info. I haven’t used this tool too much as we have some in house metrics but it is very handy for the small site owner.
The most valuable part of the pro membership is the question and answer consulting. You can ask three public questions or one private question of the SEOmoz staff every thirty days. You can browse through the the database by category, search through questions and answers, and ask any question you would like. They answer quick and it is like having a super smart third person to bounce ideas off or check the validity of what your SEO is telling you. For people who hire SEO individuals or agencies this is a great way to double check that what you are being told.
SEO Tools Review
The pro membership comes with unlimited access to all the tools. You can try a few of the SEOmoz tools here for free. Here are the tools available: Juice Link Finder, Backlink Anchor Text Analysis, Page Strength Tool, Rank Checker Tool, Crawl Test Tool, Term Target Tool, Geo-Target Detection Tool, Keyword Difficulty, Popular Searches, and Term Extraction. We have a lot of in house tools but I still use their crawl test and and a few others. For some reason I am addicted to the page strength tool as I always want my pages to be the strongest! The juice link finder is also very handy.
Guides and Education Review
This is my second favourite section! Staying up to date with the latest search engine marketing practices takes a lot of reading and SEOmoz has a talent for laying out all the information in an easy to read document. Also nice if you need to brush up, find some ideas, or check what others think about something. If you want to see the quality of the writing two of the best articles are available free, the Beginner’s Guide to SEO and Search Ranking Factors. For paying members they cover things like social media optimisation, link building, building a search friendly website, optimising for local business searches, keyword research, and so on.
The other valuable part of guides is the “SEO Tips and Tricks”, “Link Directory”, and “Social Directory”. The Tips and Tricks section is a huge database of SEO tips and tricks from users and staff. This section needs to be searchable and categorized but hopefully that is coming. The link and social directories are big lists which you can sort out to find quality directories or social media sites. Both are very handy resources.
Conclusion
Overall I am 99% satisfied with the pro membership, the only improvement I would like is a better layout and some organization on the tips and tricks. I’m also greedy so I would love for more content
. If you want to learn more about SEOmoz just visit the SEOmoz blog or read their award winning Beginner’s Guide to SEO. Even without paying for the pro membership SEOmoz is a great community for webmasters with a wealth of information.
